Management offices often want the COI days in advance, and popular windows book out weeks ahead — one reason downtown moves should be booked 4–6 weeks out (full booking guidance). Gaslamp, Little Italy and East Village — what each demands
Gaslamp Quarter: historic buildings with narrow elevators, noise restrictions, and event-night street closures. East Village: newer towers with better docks but ballpark chaos — a Padres home game or convention closes streets and consumes every parking space. Getting a truck to your door downtown
Often you can’t — not a full-size one. Where the street or dock can’t take the truck, a smaller shuttle vehicle runs between your entrance and the truck staged nearby, and parking near the entrance may itself need arranging with the city or the building. Timing your move around San Diego traffic
The 5 near downtown, the 805 through Kearny Mesa and the 15 north of Mission Valley all build early; the 8 toward the beaches is busy by late morning. Morena Boulevard bypasses a stretch of the 5, and Friars Road skirts the 8 through Mission Valley when the freeways lock up.
